VALENTINE'S CRAFTS

Sweet Hearts

Use leftover candy canes from Christmas to make Hearts! Put the two canes facing eachother on an aluminum foil lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees until slightly melted and they stick in a heart shape. Size of cane will depend on how long to bake. (Donna Heiterer)

Brownie Hearts

Here's a quick, whimsical valentine idea. (For best results, follow directions for pan size and timing. If your cutter sticks, lightly coat it with nonstick spray.)

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly coat two 9X3 in. jelly roll pans with nonstick spray. Mix 1 box low-fat brownie mix and 3/4 cup water until no dry lumps remain. Divide batter equally between pans and spread evenly. Bake 10 min. or until there's no shine to the batter and the edges slightly pull away from the sides of the pan.

Cool briefly, no more than 5 minutes. Cut with cookie cutters. Remove cookies from tray when they lift easily with a spatula.

Decorate with tubes of frosting or decorating gel.
(Use left-over brownie pieces as dessert or sundae toppings.

Serving count depends  on size of cutter

Poem and Hand Gift

Once Upon A Time
Not so long ago
I was small and that is so
Tiny fingers, little feet
Marching to a musical beat
Humming tunes, exploring the world around
Sleeping sweetly with hardly a sound
Screaming, crying, learning from falls
Playing with toys and baby dolls
And as I grow you will remember and see
That Once Upon A Time, these prints were me

Poem by Lori A. Henson

Place handprints made from colorful non toxic hand paint on white poster
board paper of your choice of size. Write poem to one side of poster board before you put the prints all around it. Or you may choose to put the poem in the middle of posterboard. Let masterpiece dry overnight. Have fun and give as a gift to a mother, father, grandparent. Be sure to put childs age on paper and their full name.  Write with typing or your own handwriting for a special home made touch. (Lori)

_____
Heart Pencils

This year my son is going to paint clothes pins (the type that clip) red.  Then glue a foam heart, with his name in 3-d foam paint, onto each clothes pin.  We found a store that had pencils with hearts so then each clothes pin will "clip" onto a pencil.  Simple and easy for most age groups. (Allie)

_____

Heart Sucker

For my son's pre-school class we cut hearts out of fun foam.  Then he applied glue and sprinkles glitter over the heart.  We then attached a sucker to the back of each one.  Simple and easy for most all age groups. (Allie)

Valentine Shaped Cupcakes

VALENTINE SHAPED CUPCAKES. To make Valentine shaped cupcakes, place a MARBLE in between the paper liner and the muffin cups.  This makes the V-shape. (Phyllis A.)

Valentine Big Card

I am writing to share with you an idea that I actually made up myself for Valentine's Day.  It's actually for couples but I guess you could make it for children as well.  You buy a regular size piece of posterboard and fold it in half so that it looks like a giant sized card.  You'll need other items such as candy bars and markers and any other decorative items like glitter, etc... You basically write your own Valentine's day card putting candy bars into your sentences.  For example:  To my SUGAR DADDY for Valentine's day, or I love you to REESE'S PIECES.  You just place the candy bar in place of the word.  I was looking for a new idea for Valentine's Day and your website really helped.  (Tara)
